Matt: I did not have any formal guitar education. I would listen to songs until they were so firmly locked in my head that I could hope that my fingers would find the right place on the guitar. And it was just trial and error. I started when I was eight and that's how I learned to play. I play completely by ear, which has been both a good thing and a bad thing. If I'm in a rock band and we're going to go do a show, or if I'm just sitting in with somebody, I can generally hop right into any kind of a situation. If somebody has got music and they're like, "Here are the charts. We need you to play exactly this. Three, two, one… go!" They're not going to get it.
